Pictures of Industrial Degauss’s work done in the field.
The pipe used in the fab shop was magnetized and the IDMAG Pipeline Demagnetizer was used to demagnetize the pipe ends. A magnetic survey was performed at the beginning with a high measurement of 90 gauss. Within 20 minutes, the equipment was set up and the pipe end was degaussed. The resulting value was reduced to less than 1 gauss and welding was able to proceed.
Industrial Degauss is the leading provider of pipeline demagnetizing equipment and services.
Magnetized pipe causes arc blow, porosity and other issues during welding. If you ask around you will hear many different methods – reverse the polarity of the leads, wrap an odd number of welding leads around the pipe, use an AC welder, strike it with a sledgehammer, lay the pipe East-West… none of them will help you avoid delays.
The IDMAG system is the right tool for the job. It can be overnighted to your location and in short time you will be able to weld without any issues.

A valve was being installed on a 42″ pipeline. The line had been pigged in the past and the contractor knew that the pipe was going to be heavily magnetized and would need to be demagnetized prior to welding. Using a welder and wrapping the welding leads would not be enough to demag this pipe.
The IDMAG System was used to successfully demag the pipe and allow the welders to do their job.
The IDMAG System is available to rent and on-site demag services are also available.
Magnetized pipe was known to exist from prior outages. The customer requested the equipment prior to the start of the project consisting of 10″ and 18″ diameter steam lines. The IDMAG pipeline demagnetizer was sent to the site to remove the magnetism.
“Got the equipment. Wrapped the valve, and it worked!”
